Abstract

Summary The overarching goal of the Technology Identification and Training Core of PennAITech is to use evidence from the literature, stakeholder and expert inputs to identify the technology needs of older Americans, as well as develop training activities for artificial intelligence (AI) and technology for scientists, engineers, clinicians, medical professionals, patients, policy makers, and investors. The Project “Health App Review Tool: Connecting those Affected by Alzheimer’s to Needed Technology Support” promotes the Technology Identification and Training Core’s goal of identifying the technology needs of older Americans with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) in addition to providing the resources and tools for connecting them to their technology needs. The project proposes the development of the Health App Review Tool (HART), a low-burden tool that aids those affected by ADRD who are experiencing barriers to initial adoption or sustained health app use. HART is a method of scaffolding the success of smart technology use among individuals affected by ADRD who may have limited technology literacy while also providing smart technology developers access to end-user feedback and related guidance so that they may integrate these insights to improve on available/emerging tools. Ultimately this tool will become integral in helping identify the technology needs of older Americans with ADRD and guide future direction for selecting technologies for all pilot projects funded by PennAITech.
