Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT Participants in biomedical and behavioral sciences research training programs are at increased risk of depression, anxiety, and suicidality compared to the general population. The proposed supplement will support the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of interventions to longitudinally study and enhance the wellness and resiliency of trainees in the four eligible NIGMS- funded training programs at UF. The project will begin with focus groups to conduct a needs assessment of wellness and resiliency of current trainees. Information from the needs assessment will be integrated into the development of a questionnaire on trainee wellness and resiliency. This questionnaire will be distributed to all trainees to initiate a longitudinal study of trainee wellness and resiliency throughout their training program appointments. The project will also support the expansion of wellbeing process groups to include predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees, and the development and deployment of resiliency workshops. Project outcomes will be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and the resiliency workshop materials will be made publicly accessible as Canvas LMS modules that will adhere to section 508, CVAA, and WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.
