Abstract
ABSTRACT This research supplement aims to enhance the career development a post-baccalaureate researcher from underrepresented backgrounds in the PIâs group. At the same time, the supplementary research activity is designed to provide complimentary data to the parental research activities, and therefore, to build a foundation on common and translatable biomedical laboratory skills for the trainee. Specifically, we will focus on basic techniques such as sterilization, cell culture, cell fixing and staining, and optical and electron microscopies with more advanced instrumentation that are relevant to the day-to-day research activities in cell biology. These highly transferable skills will benefit the traineeâs career as a future physician, scientist, or both. The career development plan will include a close mentorship from the PI, in-person training on Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR), and networking from research collaborations and regional and national seminars, workshops, and conferences. Ultimately, the research and soft skills developed in this proposed supplement will be a cornerstone for the traineeâs future career in biomedical-related occupations and therefore contribute to a more diverse and inclusive biomedical community.
