Abstract
PROJECT SUMMARY While there is widespread recognition that AI applications in digital health raise ethical questions, there is a lack of research on the ethical principles used by developers and the specific needs for ethical assessment of AI. Specifically, there is a lack of consensus on whether and how AI approaches in digital health include goals of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI). We will conduct an in-depth analysis of the ethical principles identified in the scientific literature on the development of AI approaches in clinical applications and how JEDI is conceived and integrated into research and development. To achieve our study objectives, we will fulfill the following aim: Investigate JEDI in ethical frameworks applied to research on AI in digital health and create educational case studies for identifying ethical issues related to JEDI and discussing potential approaches to integrate JEDI goals.
