Abstract

Abstract The objective of this supplement is to work with members of the BCI Pioneers Coalition, led by the first implantable BCI study participants, to better understand and promote peer support structures for BRAIN Pioneers. This proposal expands the neuroethics work being done in grant 1R01MH130457-01, which only looks at support provided by (1) family/care partners and (2) support provided by researchers. This supplement fills a potential gap in the current R01: How do research participants support each other? In this study, we: (1) engage with members of the BCI Pioneers Coalition about best practices to promote peer support for BRAIN Pioneers, using the World Cafe approach; (2) Jointly synthesize results from World Café meeting with participants to co-create a set of best practices that promote peer support for BRAIN Pioneers. This is bioethics research, and also provides capacity building for the MSU junior scholar.
