Abstract

Program Director/Principal Investigator (Last, First, Middle): Friede, Martin, H PROJECT SUMMARY (See instructions): The World Health Organization (WHO), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) signed a MOU to collaborate on carrying out the objectives of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP). GVAP was developed to achieve the vision of the Decade of Vaccines of Collaboration in extending the full benefits of immunization to all people, regardless of where they were born or where they live. In 2020, GVAP was replaced by IA2030 where the Global Vaccine and Immunization Research Forum (GVIRF) became a key component of the Strategic Priorities 7 (SP7).The GVIRF serves as a scientific forum that: 1) review the SP7 R&D agenda progress; 2) track progress and discuss obstacles related to priority vaccine research and development; 3) identify actions recommended to be taken by the research and development community in the area of vaccines and immunization research, and; 4) create an opportunity for networking among the vaccine research and immunization community. The first GVIRF was held on 14-16 March 2014 in Bethesda, MD, USA, the 2nd Forum was held on 15-17 March 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa and the 3rd Forum was held 20-22 March 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The 4th Forum was expected in Seoul, Republic of Korea, in March 2020, but had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and instead a virtual Forum took place in February 2021. An in-person forum is scheduled to take place in March 2023 in either Seoul, Republic of Korea. The Forum is co-sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and NIAID, with contribution from WHO in kind for the organization and execution of the meeting. RELEVANCE (See instructions): IVIR-AC meeting conclusions will be reported by the IVIR-AC Chair to SAGE. At the same time IVIR-AC will review outcomes of SAGE meetings and decisions in order to complement and support the work of SAGE.
