Abstract

The Census Bureau will provide technical and statistical support as the steward of the National Longitudinal Mortality Study (NLMS) - Tobacco Use Supplement to the Current Population Survey (TUS-CPS) linkage study data. The project is referred to as the Tobacco Longitudinal Mortality Study (TLMS). The development of this database is meant to enable research by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and its grantees. Census will specifically: a. Conduct additional reviews of the CPS variables for relevancy to the issues of the research proposed for 2023 on tobacco use. Develop appropriate categorizations of these variables to permit analyses on non-sparse data and document them in the TLMS Reference Manual. b. For the years 1995 to 2022, construct new variables consistent across these years and incorporate them into one analytical study and document these in the TLMS Reference Manual. c. Support statistical staff at the Census Bureau in conducting analytical research on TUS-CPS and TLMS database to be led by both by NCI investigators and the extramural scientific community.
