Abstract
This project will study carcinogenesis and biomarkers for HPV-related disease in HIV populations in DCEGs Clinical Genetic Branch. This includes the following studies:1) HIV/HPV SCJ study -- The objective of the HIV/HPV SCJ study is to clarify HPV infection and how to screen for cancer in the cervix and anogenital epithelium in women living with HIV.2) HPV and Anal Precancer/Cancer in HIV-Positive Men The objective of this research is to conduct precancer screening study of 1,000 HIV-positive MSM/ MSM with AIDS, participating in the Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) health maintenance program as an extension of our on-going collaborations with KPNC (The HPV Persistence and Progression Cohort and the Cervical Cancer Prevention Activities and Outcomes Study). 3) Burden and HPV type prevalence of anogenital precancers in people living with HIV This study collect data on anogenital precancers from three cancer registries that have previously worked successfully with the CDC and that have also participated in NCIs HIV/AIDS Cancer Match Study, Louisiana, Michigan, and Puerto Rico. After identifying anogenital precancer cases in PLHIV through updated linkages, DCEG investigators will select anogenital precancer tissues to conduct immunostaining and molecular work, including HPV genotyping. The aims of the proposed study are to:a. Create a representative population-based data and tissue resource of anogenital precancers and cancers in PLHIV b. Estimate the disease burden of cervical, anal, vaginal and vulvar precancers and cancers among PLHIVc. Study HPV genotype distributions in anogenital precancers and cancers among PLHIVd. Conduct a tissue-based evaluation of anogenital precancers and cancers among PLHIV
