Abstract
The DNTP Office of the Scientific Director establishes the vision, mission, and strategic direction of the division and provides administrative and operational support for DNTP, ensuring the availability of personnel and fiscal resources to deliver on the strategic mission. This is accomplished by collaborative work across four offices: The Office of Program Operations provides tactical support for the DNTP research portfolio by coordinating and managing contract and interagency agreement (IAA) research budgets and services, acquiring technical capabilities, and directing and managing the work of DNTPs contract research organizations. The office provides project management expertise and delivers certain shared services like chemistry support and development and maintenance of DNTP public and internal websites. The office developed a 5-year contract acquisition strategic plan and established new contracts and IAAs to support DNTP research and to develop project management infrastructure. The Office of Policy, Review, and Outreach serves as the primary interface between external stakeholders and both DNTP and the National Toxicology Program (NTP). The office provides oversight for science policy, advisory groups, and communications and manages external peer-review processes for primary products such as reports and monographs. The office conducted managed external peer reviews of scientific staff and products by experts, contract concept reviews by thethe Board of Scientific Counselors, and programmatic research reviews by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods and established a new NIEHS report series on environmental health sciences research that is catalogued in PubMed. The Office of Portfolio Strategy provides leadership and support for strategic research planning, program development, and portfolio management in execution of DNTPs mission to improve public health through development of data and knowledge that are translatable, predictive, and timely. This office designs and optimizes a portfolio structure with a program management and governance framework that aligns DNTP research projects with strategic initiatives, improves operational efficiency, and maximizes public health impact. The Office of Workforce Development and Operations serves as the focal point for administrative and operational support for all offices and branches in the division in areas such as personnel, procurement, and travel. This office also serves as a focal point for DNTP workforce development, the DNTP Training Fellowship Program, and the Divisions Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives. This office implemented travel support software, progressed a workforce development strategy, and established an internal committee to develop methods to assess the DEIA activities of DNTP, and .initiated a pilot with the NIEHS Office of Science Education & Diversity, DNTP, and Meharry College to train predoctoral students.
