Abstract
Alcohol misuse accounts for almost half of liver disease deaths in the United States. Improving prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a major priority of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The purpose of this interagency agreement between NIAAA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics to incorporate a liver ultrasound elastography with liver genetic component in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The information will be used for NIAAA efforts related to ALD.
