Abstract

Since August 30, 2021, 70 new research donors enrolled onto the protocol. 565 apheresis collections and 251 whole blood donations were collected on protocol 99-CC-0168, with 39% of whole blood research collections from HH donors. To optimize the use of resources, one apheresis procedure or whole blood collection was designed to provide aliquots to more than one laboratory or investigator. In this manner, a total of 4,556 aliquots prepared from these donations were distributed to investigators. NIAID and NCI remain the major users of research blood components from healthy volunteers, accounting for 34% and 17% of total research product distributions, respectively. 758 research blood aliquots were distributed to FDA CBER. Research Products issued include mononuclear cells (MNC) without further processing (22.9%), whole blood samples < 50 ml (63.3%), whole blood 50 ml (10.5%), platelets collected by apheresis (1.75%), plasma (1.35%), and serum from clotted whole blood (0.16%).
