Abstract
This project has been to design and construct a temporary, single-story, modular facility to house the CARD program until a permanent space becomes available on the Bethesda campus. The 24,000 SF facility will support BSL-2 laboratories, laboratory support areas, a breakroom, breakout areas, huddle spaces, conference rooms, and both open & enclosed office spaces. It is anticipated that science and analytic research spaces will require more than 50% of the useable area with the remainder being applied to the other building functions, such as offices. Once complete, the facility will ultimately house a combination of approx. 130 intramural scientists, visiting researchers and administrative staff. NIA took beneficial occupancy of the facility in March 2022, and moved into the facility. Final punch list and commissioning of building systems are almost complete, and expected to be complete this Fiscal Year.
