Abstract

1. Project on informed consent and therapeutic misconception. There are no new publications to report. For the time being, this project will be on hold. 2. Project on ethics of pain research on persons with severe intellectual disabilities. This is a collaborative effort with researchers in anesthesia and developmental psychology. The projects goal is to provide a detailed ethics guidance to conducting pain research in persons with severe IDs. Such persons have high prevalence of medical conditions associated with pain, yet due to limitations on communication, there are both scientific and ethical challenges to research. We will apply the framework developed by Emanuel et al to analyze the ethical issues in such research protocols. This project nearing completion.
