Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT Axon plasticity, in the form of the generation of axon branches, is fundamental to the development and repair of neuronal circuitry. In this project we will address the main hypothesis that the intra-axonal glycolytic pathway is required for the formation and maintenance of axon branches in vitro and in vitro. Live imaging approaches, molecular manipulations, pharmacology and optogenetic ablation of glycolytic enzymes will be used to determine the role of the glycolytic pathway. The project will also address the link between the glycolytic pathway and the cytoskeletal remodeling underlying axon branching.
