Abstract

This is a multi-year agreement between the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide funds to support the work of the Secretariat for the 18th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) planned for 2023. The Secretariat is currently the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union). The WCTOH is the leading global event for sharing best practices in tobacco control from more than 100 countries. Its purpose is to inspire an expected 2,500 delegates to transform the latest research into actions for policy change. The WCTOH conference usually takes place every three years in a different global region and following a successful bid by the Irish Department of Health, the conference will be held for the first time in its history in Ireland (Dublin) in March 2023. The timing of this conference is delayed due to ongoing travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a decision was made postpone the planned 2021 event to 2023 to ensure the ability of participants from low- and middle-income countries to attend and maximally benefit from the meeting.
