Abstract

Dry lab space. We added one Stadtman Tenure-track Investigator, Dr. Kosuke Tamura, and two Staff Scientists, Drs. Paula Strassle and Kristen Hamilton-Mosely in FY21. With a few exceptions, all personnel have been on extended telework due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because NIMHD DIR was at full capacity at the end of FY20, efforts were made to secure more dry lab space to accommodate additional growth in the DIR program and in anticipation of having to relinquish the dry lab space at the Gateway Building to NIA. A letter of commitment for space was signed in July 2021 by the NIMHD Director and approved by the NIH Space Recommendation Board on July 27, 2021, for NIMHD DIR to secure 4,292 usf at Two White Flint, Floor 10, Bethesda, MD. Pending approval of return to the physical workspace by NIH leadership, most of the DIR investigators and trainees will be relocated to the Two White Flint space. However, PIs and trainees with clinical protocols or clinical duties at the NIH CC, will continue to be based at the NIH main campus, Building 3 site. Wet lab space. Completion of remodeling of the 29B wet lab space (29B 2E18 and 29B 2E20) was delayed due to COVID-19 and has now been completed except for the portion of the shared space (29B 2N02) assigned to NIMHD DIR and a private office on the 2nd floor of this building. Renovation of our assigned section of shared space is planned to expand our capacity with an additional 3-4 cubicles for trainees, pending delays in space renovations due to COVID-19. Return of NIMHD DIR staff occupancy of that space is contingent upon approval by NIH leadership.
