Abstract

This study has 2 parts: 1) Determining the dose of epinephrine resulting in a decrease in left ventricular ejection fraction of 30-50% sufficient to result in cardiac dilation; and, 2) comparison of the effects of epinephrine with versus without sepsis. Four groups (+/- sepsis, +/- epinephrine) will be compared over 8 consecutive studies to determine the impact of epinephrine induced cardiac dysfunction on survival in a model of sepsis (n=32). The primary endpoint of this study will be survival with secondary endpoints to include quantifying cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal and hepatic injury. This study has been completed and the data is currently being analyzed. We expect the analysis to result in 2 publications
