Household transmission of COVID19 in Costa Rica

Abstract

Enrollment in this study has been completed, with 1023 persons enrolled in 304 households, for an average household size of 3.4 persons per household. Preparation is underway to ship the samples to NIAID for IgG antibody testing. Households eligible for selection were those with at least one other household member besides the index case. After administration of the informed consent, epidemiologic and clinical data was obtained by interview or retrieved from medical records For each individual enrolled, information was obtained including 1) intensity and duration of exposure to index cases; 2) Use of preventive measures such as masks, 3) history of potential exposures outside of the home; 4) duration of quarantine as applicable; 4) history of underlying medical conditions that have been associated with disease development, 5) history of signs and symptoms compatible with COVID19, since onset in the index case. For each household, we also obtained information related to crowding and socioeconomic status.
