Abstract

This year our lab focused on building models and establishing techniques to study the role of genetic risk and resilience factors in the cell biology of neurodegenerative disease, specifically Alzheimers disease. We built our lab space (stocked necessary equipment and supplies), recruited a capable team, and started optimizing protocols for generation of human stem-cell derived brain tissue types, as well as molecular biology and microscopy techniques to support our research goals. Two prior studies, data from which form the basis of mutliple projects within our lab, were published this past year in late 2020 and early 2021. In the next fiscal year, we hope to apply the techniques and tools that we are optimizing to our proposed goals.
