Abstract
Our primary objective for the current year is to establish a functional laboratory at the Bethesda campus of the National Institutes of Health. Sub-Objective 1: Organize the Physical Space The laboratory space is a shared space with several years of accrued instruments and samples in place. The first objective was to clear space for undertaking new research. This has been completed with two bays available now to begin our research efforts. Additionally, we have secured cold storage space with a shelf in the -80C freezer for storage of cells and other reagents. We are in the process of securing additional cold storage (-20C and 4C) that will provide adequate capacity. Sub-Objective 2: Obtain/Modify Space for Tissue Culture We are in the process of installing an additional tissue culture hood in order to facilitate additional capacity for performing tissue culture experiments. These requisitions have been made and we are awaiting installation which will be critical to our research program. Sub-Objective 3: Development of Critical Tools and Reagents Our work is dependent on first creating appropriate reagents. Of particular import are cell lines that have been genetically engineered to lack our genes of interest. Given the limited capacity to perform this work in our current physical space and personnel with limited experience, we are in the process of negotiating contracts for commercial production of the genetically-engineered lines. We are currently completing the ASP, a prerequisite to the generation and assessment of our animal models of glioblastoma. Sub-Objective 4: Personnel We have accepted 3 students into the lab who are currently completing requisite training
