Abstract

This year, we continued to study the role of mismatch repair in regulating the genome-wide mutation rates of cells harboring variant alleles of the major leading and lagging strand enzymes, DNA polymerases epsilon and delta. This year, we published one study reporting mutation frequencies in cells with mutations that are due to inactivation of mismatch repair genes. AndWe also reported another study reviewing the contribution of mismatch repair to the stability of the nuclear genome in several different eukaryotic organisms, demonstrating that mismatch repair is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism for maintaining genome stability.
