Abstract

This year, our group published four scientific articles related to DNA replication and its fidelity. We measured the contribution of DNA ligase 1 to the fidelity of Okazaki fragment maturation during lagging strand replication. We showed that DNA polymerase delta has key role in preventing duplications of DNA by virtue of an iron-sulfur cluster in the catalytic subunit of the four-subunit holoenzyme. We reviewed the contributions of DNA polymerases alpha, delta, epsilon and zeta in incorporating ribonucleotides into DNA during nuclear DNA replication. Lastly, we published the methodology used to measure the formation of deletion mutations in human mitochondrial DMA.
