Abstract

This is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division of Diabetes Translation, and the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). This MOU continues a 20-year collaboration between CDC and NIDDK targeting diabetes mellitus with onset in childhood, adolescence and young adulthood. The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to support research aimed at assessing the incidence and prevalence of diabetes among children, adolescents and young adults in the United States and provide estimates by diabetes type, age, sex, race/ethnicity and geographic area using a surveillance network of diabetes registries in racial/ethnic, socio-economic, and geographically diverse populations using low-cost, sustainable, population-based surveillance systems.
