Abstract

Project Summary This grant supports a project to expand the National Xenopus Resource (NXR) to allow it to sell more wild type Xenopus laevis frogs. The need for this expansion is the recent closure of Nasco, one of the main commercial suppliers of Xenopus laevis. The current expansion would entail purchase of new recirculating aquatic systems and renovation of the room where the equipment will be located. The equipment is being purchased from Iwaki Aquatic as this is the same systems already in use in the NXR. Alterations and renovations of the room will be performed by staff at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) as well as outside contractors. This expansion will allow the NXR to grow up to 1,000 additional wild type X. laevis for the research community. This should help alleviate the loss of frogs from the closure of Nasco.
