Abstract

NON CHE Abstract The National Outreach Network Community Health Educator (NON CHE) at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCCC) focuses on a culturally-based approach to increase HPV infection awareness and vaccination uptake, increasing cervical cancer screenings, and addressing barriers towards participation in clinical trials (CT) among Hispanic/Latinx from Los Angeles County(LAC). To address these disparities, the NON-CHE will conduct outreach, culturally-responsive education, and engagement in LAC. A series of interactive health education virtual workshops will deliver general information on HPV and CT, and monitor activities. These small community research meetings on HPV and CT will be delivered in English and Spanish via Zoom and in person platform as restrictions are lifted. Effectiveness will be assessed through related pre- and post- test surveys at each session using Qualtrics, and at 3-months and 6-months following attendance. Education materials will be developed and culturally adapted to convey messages in Spanish as needed, using digital infographics and Power Point presentations. The specific aims for the NON CHE based on an adapted protocol due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are: 1) to incorporate the NON CHE with USC Norris efforts, based on local and regional priorities on HPV vaccination through outreach, engagement, community health education, evaluation, and dissemination of results among Hispanic/Latino subpopulations and indigenous groups from Los Angeles County with limited English and Spanish language proficiency (LESP). The NON CHE also assists with identification of barriers towards vaccination and clinical trials enrollment, which is aligned with USC Norris and NCI priorities with the goal of reducing the cervical cancer burden by increasing HPV vaccination and CT participation among these communities; 2) to plan, conduct and assess HPV-community health education and outreach; 3) to create strengthen or enhance existing partnerships with cancer related program; 4) to create, test and/or culturally adapt and translate HPV and CT educational materials for low literacy and numeracy populations within the Hispanic/Latinx community including indigenous groups; 5) to obtain 150 completed for the first 18 months for a total of 200 surveys per topic for 2 years.
