Abstract

DESCRIPTION: An integrated, behavior-genetic analysis of learning and memory processes in Drosophila is being pursued. Behavioral assays that reliably quantify several properties of non-associative and associative learning and memory formation have been developed. Initial results have revealed substantial functional similarities between fruit flies and vertebrates for these behavioral properties. Continuation of this work is organized along the following goals: 1. Behavior-genetic analyses of memory formation 2. Behavior-genetic analyses of associative learning 3. Behavior-genetic analyses of non-associative learning 4. Anatomy and development of learning and memory 5. Analyses of sensorimotor controls
